The Year of Engineering

The Year of Engineering is a government campaign that has been established to celebrate the wonder of the field and is aiming to shake up people’s perception of engineering. In 2018, this campaign plans to inspire the next generation of inventors, innovators and problem-solvers by demonstrating what engineers actually do.

The campaign will run throughout the year and will offer inspirational engineering experiences to thousands of young people, with the intention of counteracting the engineering skills gap and expand the number of younger people who join the profession.

The Year of Engineering will be encouraging the younger generation, from all backgrounds, to reconsider their ideas of engineering, enlightening them on the truth behind some of the stereotypes and getting them to explore the variety of creative prospects engineering offers.

The former Chair of the Science and Technology Select Committee, Stephen Metcalfe MP is acting as an advisor for this campaign and will continue to engage with the industry and government throughout 2018. He will be helping to tackle the misjudgments of engineering and encourage the growth of younger people beginning a career in engineering.
